Luxembourgish impressed by Pinoy artist
LUXEMBOURG – The Philippines’ prolific artist once again captured the hearts of Europeans in a one-man exhibit in Luxembourg.
Entitled “Luxembourg, a cultural heritage”, Manny Baldemor was able to show what sets a Filipino artist apart from the rest---uniqueness.
Thibaut Partsch, an art fanatic couldn’t hide his amazement at Baldemor’s obra.
“The paintings are very lively. They represent Luxembourg very well. They are different from traditional paintings which have one subject and stick to it too much,” he said.
Alain Kinsch, honorary consul in Luxembourg admitted being mesmerized with the paintings.
“I am not very good with paintings but Manny’s work of art certainly gives me a positive feeling. It puts you in a good mood when you look at his paintings. What impresses me is his ability to mix Luxembourg with the Philippines. And that’s something we all want to achieve, a bilateral bridge between two countries”, he said.
Lessons learned
Baldemor has always believed that to be an artist one has to convey beauty in his own vision and should use his art as a vehicle in unloading excess of emotions.
“I am no good at anything but painting and writing my travel diary with a prolific brush. Whenever I would go on my travels, this ever-present thought haunts my mind-----that I may never pass this route again,” he said.
For Baldemor, the most important lesson he discovered was to allow himself more time than the average tourist whenever he visits places.
“I linger for hours at certain places, not only focusing on certain moods but also return to each location over a period of several years to soak it up, appreciate and know it intimately and deeply,” he said.
Awards received
Baldemor received over 24 local and international awards and grants. He was chosen artist-in-residence in Singapore, Japan, Chile, Portugal, Israel, Estonia and Switzerland. He has held numerous one man exhibits not only in the Philippines but in cities around the world including New York City and Warsaw.
Contribution
Over the last 18 years, he has contributed more than 20 designs for reproduction on UNICEF’s greeting cards and his global accomplishments extend even beyond the institution.
